Aeronews TV: ATR equipped with a skateboard to move its airplane sections

This is the latest "toy" acquired by ATR, the regional aircraft manufacturer, a giant skateboard that facilitates the movement of aircraft sections between the various assembly stations. Thanks to this electric skateboard 8 meters long and 2 meters wide, the cumbersome tractors of yore, difficult to maneuver, were disposed of in the garage. Skateboarding took over. Emmanuel Retty, team leader, is on that day to maneuver. Remotely, with the aid of his remote control, he controls with precision millimetric the movements of the 16 wheels of this new tool.

To move the sections, up to 15 tons of load, the skateboard must line up perfectly under the trailer. Once this is done, it is enough to raise the four hydraulic cylinders. Then, at a speed of 15 meters per minute, the loading does not take more than a quarter of an hour to reach its destination, it is half times that with the old method. Thanks to the skateboard, ATR moves ten devices each month. And with the planned rises, the different assembly halls of the aircraft manufacturer are likely to turn into a real skateboard Park.
