ECA Group will be participating in the Université d'été de la Défense taking place in Toulon, South of France on September the 4th and 5th 2017. At this occasion ECA Group will present its unmanned robotic solutions during a live demo slots as well as on its booth.

For 15 years, the "Université d'été de la Défense" has been the annual event held in the main bases of French defence. Its goal is to set up a dialogue between politicians, defence industrialists and military authorities. This event contributes each year to instaure a "Defense community" bringing together all categories of actors by exchanging opinions, proposing solutions and by creating new opportunities for cooperation in the field of Defence. During two days, networking and business workshops as well as outdoor live demonstrations will be held.

ECA Group solutions to be presented at Université d'été de la Défense 2017

At the occasion of Université d'été de la Défense 2017, ECA Group will be showcasing its complete range of integrated unmanned systems for Air, Land and Sea for Defence & Security applications.

Robotics & Integrated Systems

ECA Group unmanned robotic systems are able to operate in harshest environments: air, sea, land.  These integrated and collaborative solutions are optimized to successfully perform any kind of mission : reconnaissance, indentification, inspection or intervention.

Naval robotic solutions

ECA Group will be presenting its innovative autonomous and remotely operated vehicles solutions, as well as its fully integrated Unmanned Mine Counter Measures Integrated System UMIS suite for Mine Warfare.

For more than forty years, ECA Group focused robust R&D efforts in developing systems of robots dedicated to Underwater Mine Warfare. ECA investments paid off because today the company is able to propose its own fully integrated UMS suite. ECA Group robots are optimized to successfully perform the three MCM tasks of the “mine hunting” concept facing asymmetric threat and new environment. UMIS is an integrated Mission and Data Management System whose unique architecture provides a powerful command and control (C2) system with a seamless integration between different tasks, unmanned vehicle & mission packages, system architectures. UMIS provides the operator with homogeneous and consistent information at different levels of the MCM Mission. Through UMIS, the operator carries out the complete MCM processes: planning, performance evaluation through simulation and assistance to decision making, mission control and execution, post-mission analysis and debriefing assistant, mission effectiveness evaluation. 

UMIS is the MCM Task Force Commander’s Mine Warfare Command & Control tool. It provides him with a full Mine Warfare situational awareness, integrating tactical information about the mines threat, comprehensive cartography of the Mine Operating Area together with the environmental conditions, the different players (friends and foes), and the ongoing tasks performed by the mission packages. Some navies are already using ECA Group UMS integrated through UMIS, enjoying a true MCM C2 deployable tactical system. UMIS is a Mine Counter-Measure system using SEASCAN MK2 for Mine identification and the K-STER C mine disposal system for neutralization and can be used collaboratively with the embedded Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) in A9-M AUV or A18-M AUV, to reduce the MCM Missions duration.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)

For missions requiring aerial surveillance, ECA Group has acquired a solid expertise in the design and development of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Its solutions based on ECA Group UAV IT180 are specifically designed to meet highly demanding requirements to perform intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and recognition (ISTAR) missions. Its IT180 UAVs can be used autonomously or in a tethered mode for permanent missions. 

Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV)

ECA Group will display its range of Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV) including the UGV COBRA MK2 , CAMELEON & the latest generation UGV IGUANA.  These systems are able to perform various tasks, even in confined areas and harsh environments: from IEDD/EOD, and mine-clearing to trap removal operations.

MILITARY ARSENAL - TOULON

ECA Group will be demonstrating its Unmanned Mine Counter Measures Integrated System UMIS at the Toulon Arsenal.

The live demonstration purpose is to present a full mine hunting mission & tasks from the detection to the neutralization of a sea mine by means of ECA Unmanned Maritime Systems. These UMS used by numerous navies, including the French Navy, have been specially designed to provide a new generation of operationally effective solutions for mine warfare operations.

The MCM Detection and Classification tasks are performed by a man portable AUV: A9-M. The A9-M is a light-weight and man-portable AUV dedicated to Mine Warfare. Its advanced design enables the vehicle to operate in the mine fields without the risks to detonate a mine thanks to its very low level of acoustic and magnetic signatures. Fitted with a high resolution sonar, the A9-M provides an accurate seabed imagery enabling the operator to detect and classify mine like objects.
The MCM Identification & Neutralization tasks are respectively performed by SEASCAN MK2 and K-STER C equipped with their own set of batteries and remotely controlled through a fiber optic cable, both deployed from the INSPECTOR MK2 USV. The EMDS K-STER C is fitted with a shaped charge in a “tiltable head” to aim at the target. Its unique architecture ensures second to none performances in terms of conducted from its Launch phase to the tilt warhead fire phase by the INSPECTOR MK2 USV controlled by an operator from a “mother ship” or even from the shore as we are doing today.
Besides the live demonstration, the IT180 VTOL UAV will be presented on a static display. IT180 is a very unique mini UAV already in service with several Armed Forces used for convoy scooting, intelligence gathering, etc. IT180  Unmanned Aerial Vehicle can be deployed also from naval vessels, and used for various sub-missions such as target identification, radio relay, and magnetic signature measurements.
