Since 2006, the Naval School organizes the Naval Science Day (JSN). As a showcase for the school and its courses, the JSN has become a meeting, sharing and exchange point for the entire maritime and naval science and engineering community. In 2017, the subject discussed deals with "Drones and autonomous systems", which are at the heart of concerns in military and civilian operational contexts. The twelfth day, which took place on Thursday, was presided over by Admiral Benoît Lugan, Commander of the Naval Academy. It brought together thirteen exhibitors, such as ECA, Thales, Areva, DCNS or Pôle mer Bretagne. More than 200 external speakers came to exchange and share on drones.

Guénaël Guillerme, CEO of ECA Group (world expert in robotics), recalled, during his intervention, that the Navy was one of the first customers of ECA; That the ancestor of the drone, resembling him from a distance, dates from 1950 and had the mission of ensuring the safety of people and goods. Originally only aerial, it was in the 1960s that appeared the first SNLE (Submarine nuclear launch vehicle), intended to test the forms of the future SNLE and whose prototype has been tested in Brittany. "Now our mastery of submarine drones is good," said Guillaume Guillerm. And in 20 years, they will be miniaturized. From surface, aerial or terrestrial, with their artificial intelligence, they are able to visualize, identify and destroy an object, Guénaël Guillerme said.
