Naval Today: Kazakhstan Navy commissions its first minesweeper and equip it with ECA Group UMIS syst

Kazakhstan Navy commissions its first minesweeper ‘Alatau’ during a ceremony held in Aktau.

The ship was built in Russia by the Mid-Nevsky Shipyard and started sea trials in August 2016, passing acceptance trials in May this year.

One interesting fspecificity of this ship is the fact that it serves both as a mine sweeper and a mine hunter thanks to the UMIS system  delivered by French company ECA Group which is  an unmanned mine counter measure integrated system.

The UMIS system is composed of autonomous underwater vehicles AUV A9-M as well as an identification and mine disposal vehicles (EMDS) K-STER. UMIS uses a single multifunction console integrating the mission management software suite.

ECA Group stated  the UAVs are not limited to MCM missions and will also provide the Kazakhstan Navy with maritime surveillance capabilities including as search and rescue (SAR) operations.
