Nplus1 : ECA Group’s Inspector MK2 equipped with towed sonar

The French company ECA Group has completed the certification and qualification testing of the new towed side scan sonar TOWSCA (Towed Side Scan Sonar). The new sonar is designed for installation on Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) INSPECTOR Mk2.

Sea trials for TOWSCA sonar were conducted in the first quarter of 2017. The system is tested at various speeds and at different depths. During the tests, the company found that sonar can operate stably at sea state up to three points (chop, wave height to 1.25 meters. The Sonar can operate at depths from ten to one hundred meters and detect objects lying on the seabed. The system has a high resolution and can generate two-dimensional and three-dimensional images.

Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) INSPECTOR Mk2 can operate in rough sea up to four points (moderate agitation, wave height and 2.5 meters). The robot can be equipped with guns and used to patrol. Furthermore, it can be used to carry loads of up to 600 kilograms.
