NEWS EURONAVAL 2016: ECA Group presents its new range of Damage Control Simulators (DCS)

In the last years, ECA group extended its portfolio of naval simulators with dedicated solutions for naval safety including Damage Control and Fire Fighting. ECA Group has been awarded two contracts in Asian countries for Damage Control Simulators, one related to warship (see press release) and the second to submarine (see press release).

Hazardous situations at sea require quick reaction from crews that shall be trained efficiently. For this purpose, Damage Control Simulators are more than usual simulation systems because they place trainees in real environmental conditions that enable them to:

• Acquire the necessary knowledge for damage control in a realistic environment
• React to emergency situations in a confined environment
• Learn technics to mitigate, solve and control emergencies
• Know to use individual protective devices
• Take action in adjacent compartment emergency, inspection an evacuation
• Be trained in responding to flooding on-board
• Be trained individually and most of all in team
• Direct an emergency control action

The Damage Control Simulators are made of a warship or submarine section composed of several compartments, usually engine room and auxiliary room together with a Damage Control room. A roll control device enables to apply a tilt to the ship section.

The simulator allows reproducing various real scenarios which can be present on-board. The interactions with the damage's effects (water flood and smoke) are real as well as the tools, devices and equipment to be used to fight the hazards (flood fighting bag, pipe patching, straub coupling, bucket patches, extinguishers and firefighting equipment) are realistic in their utilizations. A sound generating system allows the instructors broadcasting inside the DCS typical sounds describing usual warship or submarine working operation noise and typical sounds of military attack (underwater explosion, air attack, missile hitting, bomb hitting, torpedo hitting). The communication system ensures the capability to exchange within the rescue team as well as with the instructor.

An instructor can continuously check, manage and interact with the simulation exercise using the communications devices but also a video system which records the training activities both for debriefing purposes and for monitoring security conditions.

The ECA Group Damage Control Simulators offer realistic training in a real environment, highly effective and secured. Crew performance can be deeply analyzed and subsequently improved.

Damage Control Simulators are proposed by ECA Group to its Customers as turnkey solutions that also include all adjacent training facilities such as DCS building, trainee's rooms, water storage tanks, etc.

Customer instructors are trained by certified ECA Group personnel for basic and advanced security courses.

Since 1936, ECA group provides reliable and efficient long term support to its Customers through maintenance contracts. The maintenance can include refresh training courses, preventive and corrective maintenance, spares deliveries, on call support, system upgrades.

ECA Group also proposes other types of Naval Safety Simulators to its Customers such as Fire Fighting Simulators or Escape Tower facilities for submarines.
