The Anti Access / Area Denial (A2/AD) concept The Anti Access / Area Denial (A2/AD) concept is primarily an anti-air operational concept. A2/AD purpose is to deter and deny an area to an adversary who usually enjoy the air superiority using joint and combined sophisticated anti-air defense.

But A2/AD concept can be declined as well in the maritime domain in an even more powerful manner because it can be asymmetric and implemented in an anonymous way. The means used to deter and deny a powerful maritime task force the access to a littoral, an high sea area, a port or a strait are essentially the submarines, the sea mines and the anti seals devices.

These three kind of assets are anonymous and discrete by nature. Which means and capabilities under which doctrine could counter the A2/AD Maritime concept? The brief try to give an answer.
